THE HAPPY PRINCE
Colin Morgan as Bosie Douglas is the blessing the world needed. He manages to portray Bosie exactly as the self-centered snob that he was, It by far different than any other role that we have ever seen of Colin, and not because of the blonde wig that he's wearing. It's the entire personality. I should dislike Bosie because he's only a mayor drama queen and he mainly cares about himself, but by the way that Colin portrays him I can't. To me this is one of Colin's best roles because of those reasons.
I went to see the movie all by myself at the other side of Holland because my local cinema wasn't showing the movie. But because I was there by myself there was no one who could judge me for that weird noise that I made when Colin appeared as Bosie on that freakishly huge screen. It was incredible though.
I know that when I finally get my hands on the dvd that I'll be rewatching this an awful lot.
I have to say that this movie is incredibly important. Let's not forget how tragic it was to be a part of the LGBT community during that time period. Oscar Wilde was sentenced to jail for two years just because he had a relationship with another man, something which is rather unfathomable these days. Oscar Wilde's life wasn't a fairy tale and he has faced many different challenges to be accepted.
Only Bosie isn't exactly helping him. In my eyes Bosie Douglas is anything but a prince charming. His entire character is based around the wealth that was provided by his mother. The relationship between Bosie and Oscar wasn't healthy either because of how Bosie knew how to manipulate Oscar and to push his buttons. That's why I think it's only fair to say that Bosie died penniless in the end because of how pompous he was.
